Record-keeping notice

The Sanson Register is a privately edited gazette. It is not a booking office. It has no commercial arrangement with any lift, lodge or ticket seller. We do not take bookings and we do not accept payment. This page says what records exist when you read the gazette or send a letter.

A. Who keeps the records

B. What a letter contains

If you use the letter form we store the name and email you type, the text, the time, and the IP address the host saw. We use that to read and reply. We do not keep a marketing list. We do not rent, sell or swap the contents. If you write to [email protected] instead, we keep the thread the way a person keeps mail. Please do not send card numbers, passports or booking codes. If they arrive we delete them.

C. What the host already sees

Opening a page usually leaves an ordinary log line: IP (including an address forwarded by a content network when the name is proxied), time, path, referrer if present, status, and a browser string. Logs exist so the gazette stays up and so a fault can be found. We do not build advertising profiles from them.

D. What we never ask for

We do not collect payment-card numbers, because we never take payments. We do not ask for dates of birth, government identifiers or account passwords. There is no customer login and no cart.

E. Why we hold anything

Letters: to answer a note you started. Logs: to run and protect a small website. In Canada those uses sit under ordinary private-sector privacy rules. Where European rules apply: legitimate interests for hosting; your request when you write; legal duty if a competent authority issues a lawful order.

F. How long

Letters: up to eighteen months after the last reply, then deleted, unless a conversation is still open. Host logs: rotated on a sixty-day cycle, longer only if an incident needs a copy. Email in the editor’s mailbox: until the thread is no longer useful.

G. Who else might see a record

The people who keep the server, the certificate and the domain name online may process connection data as processors. We do not forward a letter to any lift or attraction operator. We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for behavioural advertising.

H. If you came from an advertisement

Some readers arrive after a click on an advertising network. That network is a separate controller for its own click and for cookies on its own domains. These editorial pages do not carry a conversion tag, a remarketing pixel or an analytics suite. We may see a standard referrer or a campaign parameter in a log line. We do not use those parameters to follow you around the web. This gazette does not collect payment details and does not offer a booking form.

I. Children, rights, security

The gazette is written for adults planning travel. It is not aimed at children. If a parent thinks a child wrote to us, email [email protected] and we will erase the note. Depending on where you live you may ask what we hold, to correct it, to delete it, or to object. Write with the subject line “Records”. You may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, a provincial commissioner, or a European supervisory authority. We use HTTPS. No method of transmission is perfect.

J. Changes

If this notice changes we will update the date at the top. Material changes stay on this URL.
